Academic Emphasis

The Japan study abroad program is a great fit for intercultural ministries/missions focus, biblical literature, or general education, but available to all majors. There are classes in English on Japanese arts and culture, as well as other options.

Global Studies III: Japanese Arts and Aesthetics
Global Studies VII: Religion and Society in Japan
Elementary OR Intermediate Japanese Language and Culture
13 credits total

What to Expect

In the Fall semester, students will make five field trips under the guidance of the professors. The following destinations are tentative and may be changed according to circumstances.

  • Overnight Hakone trip
  • Watching sumo wrestling
  • Japan study trip
  • One night homestay at a Japanese home
  • Boso-no Mura
  • Tokyo National Museum

Spring Retreat: During the spring semester, students get to deepen their faith, broaden their worldview, and serve in a cross-cultural setting.
