Teach Cross-Culturally in Belize

The January term (J-Term) Belize trip is designed to provide Education students with experience teaching abroad in a different culture. In particular, students learn the impact of poverty on the school environment. Partnering with Body and Soul Ministries, Taylor students reside at the ministry base, gain teaching and classroom observation experience, engage in volunteer projects, and tour the country.

Belize is a small Central American country where English is the official language. The trip fulfills Perspectives on Diversity course credit for Education majors.

My trip to Belize was a great learning experience. I got the opportunity to navigate a challenging teaching circumstance on my own while still being able to lean on my peers and teachers for support.

  • Zoe Frisby

    Class of 2025

Belize was a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, and I couldn’t recommend it enough. I was challenged as I wrote lesson plans, navigated cultural differences, and worked alongside my mentor teacher.

The Diversity in the Classroom course in Belize gave me a new perspective on meeting students' basic needs as an educator. Addressing basic needs is essential for building the trust and stability needed for deeper learning, which I have been able to bring into my own classroom post-grad.
