Credit-Based
All our ESL courses are credit-bearing. A typical course is three credits, and students normally take 12-18 credits, or 4-6 courses, in a semester.
Cultural Immersion
As a student in our English as a Second Language program, you will be welcomed as a full participant in the Taylor University community. This supportive and encouraging community offers not only cultural opportunities but also relationships and memories to guarantee you an engaging educational journey.
During your time at Taylor University, you will live in a residence hall with other students and participate in our residence life programs. You will also have opportunities to be involved in a variety of clubs and organizations, attend chapel services, and participate in Taylor activities and traditions that help increase your language skills in a supportive and encouraging environment.
Taylor’s English as a Second Language Programs
Full-time ESL
Our full-time ESL program provides 12 credit hours of English language study at the intermediate level. This is a one-semester program which can be taken by those who intend to go on to study in a degree program at Taylor, or those who just want a semester of English study. Students may also have the option to audit 1-2 regular courses.
Part-time ESL
This program is for students who are admitted to a degree program at Taylor, but who still need some English language development at the high intermediate level. Courses provide preparation in academic English, American classroom culture, and academic study skills. Some of our courses are paired with required regular courses, providing additional support as students move into full-time study in their majors at Taylor.
