The Taylor University Math Department will host the fourth annual Math Field Day for central Indiana high school students on Thursday, March 15. Organizers say the event will showcase possible future studies for students that are interested in the STEM-related field.

In addition to Taylor University faculty and students, 2018 Math Field Day will be hosted with the help of Indiana Wesleyan students and faculty members. The day will consist of various activities from a Bungee Jump Challenge of creating an alternate bungee jump, to the challenge of Breakout Room, where students will work together to solve puzzles to escape the room before time runs out. All events will be held in the Euler Science Complex.

“We hope Math Field Day will give students an opportunity to enjoy mathematics through creative activities that go beyond the classroom,” said Dr. Mark Colgan, Professor of Mathematics at Taylor. “By experiencing college for a day, hopefully the high school students will consider furthering their education in mathematics or another STEM related field.”

2018 Math Field Day is being made possible with a grant presented by the Women’s Giving Circle of Taylor University.
