This weekend, Taylor Theatre presents the first round of performances of The Marriage of Figaro, and music and theatre faculty welcome high school seniors to audition for Taylor’s new musical theatre major.

The Marriage of Figaro, a comic opera in English based on the play by Pierre Beaumarchais, features music by Mozart and was adapted from the Ruth and Thomas Martin version by Tracy Manning, Managing and Artistic Director of Theatre, and junior theatre arts major Alexis Colon. The production opens in Mitchell Theater on Friday, November 13, at 8:00 p.m. and will run again on November 14, 20 and 21 at 8:00 p.m., and on November 15 and 22 at 2:00 p.m.

Friday, November 13, Taylor is also hosting its first audition day for the new musical theatre program. High school seniors interested in studying musical theatre at Taylor will complete voice, acting, and dance auditions in pursuit of acceptance to the program.

The musical theatre major is a collaborative program of the music and communication department faculty, joining the strengths of Taylor’s music performance program with that of Taylor’s theatre program.

Musical theatre melds three performance arts - song, dance, and acting - to develop artists prepared for the demands of the musical theatre world. Taylor’s musical theatre program provides a unique space for the believing artist to engage with difficult questions while pursuing excellence in a community of believers.

High school seniors interested in studying musical theatre at Taylor can schedule an audition by emailing Tracy Manning, trmanning@taylor.edu. Musical theatre auditions will also take place on February 6, 2016, and May 6, 2016.

Auditioning students are also welcome to attend The Marriage of Figaro, which is open to the public. Tickets are available online, by calling 765.998.5289, or through emailing boxoffice@taylor.edu.
