Taylor Theatre Presents The Boys from Syracuse

Boys From Syracuse cast on stage

Taylor Theatre presents The Boys from Syracuse on April 23 and 25 at 7:30 pm, April 24 at 8 pm, and April 26 at 2 pm at Taylor University’s Mitchell Theatre. Tickets are available on Taylor University Theatre’s Instagram, on Hometown Fan, and at the box office.

Based on The Comedy of Errors by William Shakespeare, Rodgers and Hart’s The Boys from Syracuse brings farce and over-the-top storytelling to the stage. The story follows two sets of long-lost twins whose arrival in Ephesus sparks a whirlwind of mistaken identities, romantic relationships, comedy, and chaos. A frantic pursuit through the city streets leads to an abundance of laughter, only resolving when the twins finally meet face-to-face.

Dr. Mary Kathryn Brewer, Assistant Professor of Music and director of The Boys from Syracuse, remarked, “I am most excited to bring this style of farce and over-the-top storytelling to the stage. So often we think that stories like these are outrageous, beyond what we experience in everyday life. While the context may be otherworldly, the problems are just as real today as they are in this story set in Ancient Greece, where first impressions can be wrong, pride can blind someone to the truth, and lovers can find middle ground when they don’t agree. I love the mirror of authenticity under the veil of the ridiculous.”

She continued, “This story is set in Ancient Greece but is filled with references to other time periods, popular culture, and Shakespeare. Don’t expect to see a Greek Tragedy or a Shakespearean play. Come see the show with no expectations, and I think you’ll love it!”
