Taylor’s Envision Film Festival on March 12-14 will highlight the best work of the year from Taylor student filmmakers and offer a day of free film workshops open to the public and prospective students. Guests will include Los Angeles-based Visual Effects Artist and Compositor Nick Chamberlain and Managing Director of Bittersweet Creative Dave Baker.
Chamberlain will offer workshops on Hollywood visual effects. In his first workshop, he’ll explaining how film and television visual effects move from concept to final frame, drawing on examples from his national Emmy-nominated work with Barnstorm VFX. In the second workshop, he’ll explain the foundations of photorealism, identifying the techniques that make visual effects look real.
Baker’s first workshop will focus on his for-profit creative agency, Bittersweet Creative. Baker will help students understand how to be successful as a freelancer or staff person working on client video projects. In his second workshop, he’ll focus on Bittersweet’s not-for-profit branch and demonstrate how students can invest their video/film talents in meaningful visual work for organizations worldwide.
The year’s best fiction films, documentaries and music videos made by Taylor students will screen on March 13 at 7 pm in Rediger Auditorium in the Boren Campus Center. After the films, an awards ceremony will showcase the winners of this year’s competition, as judged by Taylor film alumni.
The public is welcome at Envision events, and there is no charge to attend. The full festival schedule is available at www.envisionfilmfestival.com.
Taylor’s Film & Media Arts program has received more than 1,250 external awards and recognitions, including CINEs, Tellys and multiple recognitions from the regional and national Emmy organizations.
