Taylor Theatre Presents Shrek the Musical

Shrek in costume

Taylor Theatre presents Shrek the Musical November 14-15 and November 20-22 at 7:30pm, and November 16 at 2pm at Taylor University’s Mitchell Theatre. Tickets are available online and at the box office.

Based on the beloved DreamWorks film, Shrek blends modern storytelling with classic fairytales in a heartfelt production that highlights the beauty of difference, friendship, and courage. The story follows Shrek, a grumpy ogre living in a swamp, whose life gets interrupted when a group of displaced fairytale creatures arrive on his land. Teaming up with his overly energetic partner, Donkey, Shrek embarks on a journey to rescue Princess Fiona, making friends and learning to love oneself along the way.

Artistic Director Tracy Manning reflected on the heart behind this season’s mainstage production, sharing: “We chose Shrek because it feels like the right story for this moment. Theatre has a sacred role in reminding us who we are and who we are called to be. This musical gives our students a chance to stretch—vocally, comedically, physically—and invites us all to consider what it means to build community, to ‘love our neighbors as ourselves.’ I am continually moved by the generosity, creativity, and courage of our students. Their willingness to explore, to fail boldly, to lift each other, and to pursue excellence together is a gift. Rehearsing Shrek has reminded us that good theatre isn’t about perfection—it’s about presence, collaboration, and joy. We hope you feel that spirit the moment you walk into the theatre, and we hope you leave reminded that your ‘freak flag,’ whatever shape it takes, is welcome and worthy of celebration. We are, after all, ‘fearfully and wonderfully made.’”
