Taylor University received top spot nationwide for “Town-Gown” relations in the latest edition of The Princeton Review’s Best Colleges in the United States list.
“Taylor students love Upland,” says Andrea Masvero, Executive Director of 1846 Enterprises, the entity spearheading a major revitalization effort in the small town of Upland, Indiana, through the Main Street Mile Initiative.

“Every time I meet with students, they are asking for ways to connect with and serve the Upland community,” Masvero said. “They want to frequent downtown businesses and coffee shops, they are active in volunteering, and they are involved in local churches. Taylor students are grateful for the warm welcome Upland offers them.”
The Princeton Review also ranked Taylor 4th for “Happiest Students” and 7th for “Friendliest Students.”

“These results reflect the vibrant spirit of our students and the thriving culture at Taylor. We are excited to see this energy continue to advance our campus, our local and regional community, and our enduring mission,” said President D. Michael Lindsay.
The coveted Princeton Review ranking is a recognition of years of effort for Taylor University. In 2022, new college President Lindsay launched a 5-year strategic plan, Taylor Thrives, that featured a thriving community as one of its three pillars.

The Main Street Mile Initiative is a $100 million economic and community development effort to revitalize the town and region. From 2023 to 2028, the program is taking on many strategic projects that benefit local residents and students alike. Key developments include the expansion of the public library, a new mixed-use building downtown, a boutique collegiate inn, and a variety of new housing options.
Upland has been Taylor University’s hometown since 1890.
