Advice to Incoming Freshmen

Be an active learner. Be an individual. Save time for solitude and silence.

Why I Enjoy Teaching at Taylor

Students at Taylor make teaching at Taylor a joy! When I meet them where they are, they are willing to be led to broader interests, deeper engagement, and higher understanding; when I discuss the subject matter with passion, they get passionate too.

I enjoy reading, listening to music, hiking, and traveling. A little know fact about me is that I grew up on a family farm.

Major Career Accomplishments

My best accomplishments are students: the general education students who never had (or lost) a love of literature but found (or regained) it in my class, the English majors who thought they didn’t like Jane Austen or didn’t understand poetry but whose minds changed in my class. In addition to papers and poems, I’ve published the first English translation of an early book by Rainer Maria Rilke, one of my favorite poets.
