Day 5 in the Word: 1 Corinthians 2:1-5

About the passage

Paul reminds the Church that he based his ministry among them in weakness and frailty. This means he set aside the “tools” of human wisdom and persuasive speech to allow the Holy Spirit to be the one to move people’s hearts. Paul is singular in his efforts and mission: Christ and Christ crucified; that’s it! As we serve God, realizing the difference between God’s power and human wisdom will be the difference between a life of purpose and a life of meaningless striving. Choosing the former will take courage! Be courageous!

Day 5: 1 Corinthians 2: 1-5

When I first came to you, dear brothers and sisters, I didn’t use lofty words and impressive wisdom to tell you God’s secret plan. For I decided that while I was with you I would forget everything except Jesus Christ, the one who was crucified. I came to you in weakness—timid and trembling. And my message and my preaching were very plain. Rather than using clever and persuasive speeches, I relied only on the power of the Holy Spirit. I did this so you would trust not in human wisdom but in the power of God.
