I was born and raised in Greece. You can imagine coming to a small university in the cornfields of Indiana was a change! However, Taylor became a home to me really fast. I came in with an undeclared major. I was (and still am) a very indecisive person. But what I did know, after trying out some of the general education classes in the exercise science major, this was the place for me with no clue what I would do with it. I remember always telling Dr Hayes that “I wish I could just major in people.” One of the last days of class, Dr Hayes asked our senior class, “what is something you’ve learned these past 4 years?” It was in that moment, that although I did not know what would come after graduation, I realized that field I was in was majoring in people. It didn’t just look at the physical but the emotional, mental, and spiritual. The whole person. Since graduating Taylor I did the world race, found a passion of mine and now getting my doctorate in physical therapy.
My study abroad in Ecuador. Volunteering for the cardiac rehab program. Being a personal trainer for my clients. Building lifelong friendships. The journey of stepping into the unknown and being okay with it.
One of the reasons I stuck with exercise science after that first year was not only because I loved the content but because the professors were invested not only in my growth academically but also spiritually. I still carry with me advice that I was given by the professors I had. The professors care. They are involved. They are for you.
Taylor taught me what it means to have a community that pushes you, builds you up, and encourages you to walk with the Lord in every situation in life.
Step out of your comfort zone. Don’t be afraid of the unknown but welcome it knowing you have God, your professors, your classmates/friends, and family behind you ready to back you up and guide you.
