I was born and raised in the Midwest and had always been attracted to the entertainment industry. When it came time to go to college, I knew I wanted to pursue a career in Music Business in Nashville, but felt called to study at Taylor University. I felt as if there was no way God could make my dreams come true if I wasn't making connections during this formative time. My dad would always tell me, "God knows your address" and he was absolutely right. I attended Taylor with the intention of graduating as quickly as possible so I could begin making connections in Nashville. I studied Marketing, worked on the Student Activities Counsel which hosted several music events a year, and wrapped up my education in Nashville studying at the Contemporary Music Center through Best Semesters on the Music Business Track. During my time there, I made connections at Capitol Christian Music Group and received an internship from May–August 2017 (the same time I was graduating.) It's a long story of God moments, but I ended up on the National Promotion (Radio) team at Capitol CMG in October 2017 as the Coordinator and was promoted to Manager, National Promotion in December 2019. Since then, I have worked and traveled closely with TobyMac, Mac Powell, We The Kingdom, Anne Wilson, Kari Jobe, Chris Tomlin, Hillsong, Tori Kelly, and many others.
I was impressed to find the opportunities on campus that fit so well with my passions. The school was great at throwing concerts in the Student Center, as well as hosting talent nights for students. The opportunities to be involved on the logistics side were so valuable in the early days of my experience.
Dr. Hirschy was excellent at providing tangible experiences in her classes. In our Professional Selling class, we sold legitimate Pacers tickets and were graded in teams. As a Radio Promoter, I call about 30 people a week trying to "sell" my songs for them to play on the radio. This phone experience and grind is something I reflect back on often.
Becoming an avid reader post graduation has brought to my attention how many excellent books were assigned in my Bible classes. When you're working on homework for 4-7 classes, it's easy to skim or read the Cliff Notes. Now, I find myself going back and reading the books that were assigned because they were incredible, foundational reads that I simply bypassed. My advice would be: your professors know what they're assigning. It's good stuff. You'll either find out now or in five years (It will save you time if you choose the former.)
Stay true to your vision and dreams. Your professors and counselors want to see you reach them. God knows your address and He has put a dream in your heart for a reason-- chase it.
