Since graduating in December of 2018, I have been given great opportunities to learn and grow. In 2019 I was in Northern Michigan where I discovered my passion for working outdoors and with children. Environmental education is the field I have fallen in love with. It brings me great joy when children and even adults have what I call "ah ha " moments when realizing the great treasures that can be found in the out-of-doors. When Covid-19 hit, I traveled back home. At Taylor I played for the Women's Tennis Team. With this background and love for the sport, I became a tennis instructor teaching lessons for all ages. I enjoyed teaching but knew I wanted to get back in the field (literally). God provided. I am currently a National Park Ranger. This profession has given me the opportunity to dive back into my passion. I help visitors plan trips and learn about the area.
I loved my time at Taylor! The greatest experience/takeaway from Taylor is how important community is. No matter if you are still a student at Taylor or a recent graduate, it is critical that you find your people and build a community. It will take some work, but it will pay off. I have been blessed with the communities I have been part of!
The interactions with my Taylor professors demonstrated to me what it meant to be a professional, and they helped me discover my God-given abilities. They also stressed the importance of sharing the Gospel and loving others.
The truth is we are called to be lifelong learners. No matter if you are proficient in your field of study, there is still more to learn. I have a co-worker that said, "If you do not think you have anything else to learn you might want to pick a new career". Never stop learning!
The advice which has become my mantra is, "Just do the next right thing". It might be doing the right thing in that moment or for the next year.
