Removing Barriers, Advancing Potential

Taylor welcomes students with disabilities who are prepared to engage in college-level coursework and meet the University’s admissions standards. Through the Academic Enrichment Center, we provide appropriate support services to ensure equal access to academic programs and full participation in Taylor’s whole-person educational experience. These services may include note-taking assistance, alternative testing arrangements, or other reasonable accommodations as determined by qualified professionals.

Students’ Responsibility for Accommodations

One of the biggest adjustments for students with disabilities in college is learning how much the responsibility shifts to them. In high school, support services are often set in motion by the school—but in college, it’s up to the student to take the lead. That means disclosing a disability, requesting accommodations, and following through with the plan.

This transition can feel overwhelming. Suddenly, what once was a guaranteed right to education now becomes about gaining access to that education—and students must be the ones to ask for what they need, not a parent or professor. If you had an IEP in high school, you may notice significant changes. Some accommodations—like modified exams or assignment changes—may not be allowed in college if they alter the essential nature of a course.

But you’re not alone in this process. At Taylor, we’re here to help you make this transition with confidence. Taking responsibility for your learning includes being proactive, seeking support early, and following up with the Academic Enrichment Center (AEC).

Collaborative Process

The accommodation process at Taylor is built on partnership. You won’t go through it alone—our support team will work alongside you to identify and remove barriers so you can fully engage in your college experience.

We encourage you to meet with us early on to talk through your needs and goals. Together, we’ll explore what accommodations might be helpful and how they can support your success during your time at Taylor. It's a conversation—not just a checklist—and we're here to listen, guide, and advocate with you.

Taylor University is committed to providing equal access to all students and fully complies with federal mandates outlined in Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973, the Americans with Disabilities Act of 1990, and the ADA Amendments Act of 2008.
