The Taylor University Department of Music is hosting a memorial recital as a tribute to Dr. Barbara Dickey, Emeritus Professor of Music, who died November 30, 2013. The recital will be held Saturday, March 15, at 3:00 p.m., in the Butz Carruth Recital Hall of the Smith-Hermanson Music Center.

Dr. Dickey taught Piano Performance and Fine Arts at Taylor from 1961-2003. She maintained an enthusiastic interest in all of the fine arts, especially architecture, painting, sculpture, theatre, and film. This interest led to the organization of the integrative arts experience during Taylor’s January term in which students travel to Chicago for a world-class fine arts experience. This course still exists today and remains one of the most popular courses on campus.

The memorial recital will feature video tributes from former students and performances by friends and department colleagues. In addition, there will be a reading of poems by friend and colleague Dr. Jessica Rousselow Winquist and a music department tribute from Dr. Albert Harrison, current chair of the music department.  Performers include Dr. Leon Harshenin, Professor of Piano at Taylor University; former colleagues Dr. Ronald and Chikako Sloan; and Dr. Sharon Parr, a former student who is currently Professor of Piano at the University of Indianapolis.  Friends of the family from Michigan will be featured in a jazz trio at the end of the program. They include Terry Lower, piano; Jim Ryan, drums; and Ray Tini, bass.

A reception will be held following the recital in the foyer of the Recital Hall. The program is open to the public.
