Opportunities for Mission Representatives
World Opportunities Week at Taylor University provides mission representatives from a wide range of mission organizations a unique opportunity to invest in the lives of college students who are passionate about serving their Lord. We strive to take a holistic approach to focusing on missions throughout the week, learning and experiencing from multiple perspectives in multiple environments. There are five main platforms for mission representatives to be involved during WOW:World Opportunities Center
Every day, the World Opportunities Centers will be open in our Dinning Commons and Nussbaum Science Building (WOW-tech). The D.C. center will be open during meal times, as we have found that it is in this avenue that students and representatives have the most opportunity for one-on-one interaction at display booths. The WOW-tech center provides a unique opportunity for technology-focused students to interact with mission reps before and after classes. Each organization will be provided with a table and the resources they need to set up a display booth for students to learn more about their organization and opportunities.
Ministry Opportunities/Job Fair
In addition to the World Opportunities Center, on Wednesday night, we will set up a separate area in the Dining Commons as a Ministry Opportunities/Job Fair. This is an opportunity for representatives to meet one on one with students about particular service opportunities, jobs, and internships available within your organization, either through more detailed counsel or interviewing. The times for the evening display center time and the ministry opportunities will overlap, so representative pairs may split up, choose to do only one of these, or go back and forth between centers on this night.
Classroom Presentations
We desire that through this week, every student on campus might have the opportunity to see how their major can be applied to missions, and how they can use their gifts to further the Kingdom. Therefore, our goal for classroom presentations is to not only provide a little information on how your organization utilizes the talents of the major, but also any general topics that would be applicable to specific fields of study. The registration process will ask for preferences on which fields your representative is able to speak. These preferences will be sent to our professors, who will request which representatives they feel fit best with their classes.
Seminar Night
Wednesday night, there will be two sessions of seminars led by mission representatives on a range of topics relevant to missions. These will be smaller settings, held in classrooms on campus, and opportunities for students and representatives to engage in discussing and considering more specific issues regarding missions in our world today.
Bible Study
In order to further the holistic approach of the week and to build relationships between students and mission representatives, representatives would also have the opportunity to get to interact with small groups of students on dorm wings/floors through meeting with them for a Bible study. There will be at least one scheduled evening Bible study during their stay, and the rep would be able to work with the residence assistant on the wing to coordinate more interaction during their stay if desired. This time could take any shape: delving into a biblical text, discussing personal experiences or lessons learned through service, or just praying for the world.
If you would like to be involved in any of these areas, please indicate that on your application, along with presentation topics & expertise so we can place you in situations in which you will be best suited.
