Goals

Our Goals6c in the Cistern

In keeping with Standards of Excellence in Short-Term Mission, Lighthouse projects are characterized by:

  • God-centeredness
  • Empowering relationships
  • Mutual design
  • Comprehensive administration
  • Qualified leadership
  • Appropriate training
  • Thorough follow-up

Program Objectives Include:

Equip for Cross-Cultural Understanding

Before and during the project students research the cultural, religious, historical and social aspects of the host country and the importance of entering another culture as humble servant-learners. Students are equipped to walk alongside the local people and begin to understand their way of life, beliefs, customs, and needs.

Enable Interpersonal Development

Teams work together to strategize, prepare and carry out ministry. The interdependence that develops as each team learns to function well in a foreign culture promotes deep relationships. Students also develop friendships across cultures through serving, loving and learning from the people of the host country.

Engage in Outreach Ministry

Students share Christ's love, mercy, truth and themselves, putting passion for God into action. They gain experience in implementing cross-cultural outreach and share their faith through words and actions. They develop their leadership potential, seek justice, grow spiritually and explore vocational calling.

Evaluate Through Reflection and Integration

Experiences, discussion, and journaling serve as catalysts for students to reflect on the biblical view of God's global purposes, their place in God's mission, the diversity of the global church and the characteristics of a World Christian.
