Academic Credit

IAS 120 Introduction to International Ministry

This one-hour course is offered each fall to prepare students for the Lighthouse field experience. It covers the definition and components of culture as students identify their own cultural distinctives. Students then study the host culture with the goal of creating a ministry strategy that will effectively demonstrate the love of Christ. Students investigate cross-cultural dynamics and prepare to clearly communicate their faith in Christ. The course also provides guidance and instruction in specific areas of short-term missions, including support-raising, long-term partnership with host ministries, and selfless involvement with a team of fellow students.

IAS 320 Cross-Cultural Outreach

As students delve into cross-cultural missions, they earn three credit hours through this course in January that meets Taylor's academic cross-cultural requirement. They read a country-specific text, visit cultural and historic sites, learn from host leaders, build intercultural relationships, implement their ministry plans and examine and reflect upon all they experience.

Other Credit

In addition to these courses, some academic departments organize Lighthouse projects that involve students in ministry related to their major. Some of these projects grant credit in other fields such as social work, education and environmental science.
