SAFE is Taylor University’s security awareness program. Our goal with this program is to establish a conduit through which we can educate clients about security issues. SAFE has 8 Core Components: Anti-virus, Anti-Spam, Anti-Spyware, Encryption, Firewall, Passwords, Patch Management, and VPN.
We have established a 4-phase initial implementation of the program:
Phase 1
Create a Security Analyst position to
focus on the SAFE program. We are pleased to announce that David Crim
has been hired for this position. His first task was to implement a
new VPN to allow people to securely access Taylor resources from
anywhere in the world. We have already completed this phase and are
announcing it here at the Tech Fair. If you would like the VPN
software installed, just bring your laptop by the SAFE booth.
Phase 2
Create a Web site to promote the SAFE
program and become a portal through which people can see and read about
security issues. Some introductory training in security awareness will
also be given.
Phase 3
Rollout new security technologies such
as encrypted USB keys, encrypted hard drives, and complete campus
registration. Right now we force ResNet and wireless clients to
register their machines, we are moving forward to deploying this
security across the entire campus.
Phase 4
Windows Vista has been released and
includes a number of new technologies and security measures. In this
phase we will explore these new technologies and how to best implement
them on Taylor’s campus.
