2009 Season Preview
Hot on the heels of an 11-1, 7-1 season, the Lady Trojans charge into the 2009 season with high hopes and the talent to meet those aspirations.
Experience will be a main ingredient for head coach Dara Syswerda's club as they lose only two players from the 2008 season. Syswerda's lineup card will not be seeing many changes with her top four singles players returning.
MCC #1 singles champ Germania Bedon along with Kristin Goeke, Kaiti Marsh, and Sarah Billman are poised to lead the Lady Trojans. Bedon, who placed 7th at the ITA National Tournament, and Goeke, who was second in #2 singles at the MCC Tournament, form a powerful duo in singles action for TU.
Likewise, Syswerda's top two doubles teams remain intact and half of the #3 tandem will be back on the court in 2009. Goeke and Marsh fashioned an outstanding record including a win at the ITA Regional Tournament in #1 doubles. Bedon and Billman took the runner-up spot at the MCC Tournament.
Leadership of the team will lie with Goeke and Marsh, the only two seniors on the roster. Their experience and understanding of the game both on and off the court will be pivotal in the success of the Lady Trojans.
Other returners from the 2008 season include Susanne Johnson, who started in doubles play but fell to injury, Corrie Walters, Katie Mathers, and Kathryn Carlson.
Syswerda believes that her incoming class can provide some quality play to add to the depth of the Lady Trojans. The four freshmen joining the team are: Kelsey Meyer, Joni Stafford, Sarah Heintzeman, and Jordyn Henson.
