September 11, 2009
The men's cross country team placed 2nd at the 8-team Olivet Nazarene Midwest Classic contested on Friday evening. Michael Pabody and Isaac Bryan led the Trojans with a 5-6 finish in the 74 runner field in 26:26 and 26:34 respectively.
Freshman Corbin Slater stepped up big time for TU to finish 9th with a time of 27:12. Tom Robertson was just two spots back of Slater in 11th, crossing the line at 27:24. Caleb Pack, also a freshman, rounded out the top five in the 18th position at 28:07.
Brian Tencher produced a 28:25 for 25th place, Jeff Hubley ran a 28:57 for 32nd, and Matt Bane hit the line at 29:31.
The Trojans held out five runners due to injury or illness.
Head coach Ted Bowers was excited about his team's day, "It was a very strong race for us. ONU is ranked 9th, so coming to their place and facing a highly ranked team gave us a taste of what we must battle all year to accomplish our goals. Our guys followed the game plan and we are particularly happy with the fitness we showed in the last two miles. This really gets us on-track for Little State next week."
Next Friday the Trojans travel to Indiana State for the Indiana Intercollegiate Championships.
