Work Study

By being employed on campus through the Federal Work-Study program, students can earn up to $2400 per year. Federal Work-Study is need based and requires the student to file a FAFSA.

It is important for students and their families to realize that a  Federal Work-Study (FWS) award, if included in your financial aid award letter, is different than other award items in some important ways:

  • Unlike grants, scholarships and loans, FWS is NOT a guaranteed amount, since it is the student's responsibility to find a FWS job on campus.

  • Unlike grants, scholarships and loans, there is NO automatic posting of dollars to the student account. Federal Work Study earnings are paid directly to the student through student payroll. It is generally recommended that students use their earnings for their personal expenses throughout the year and not consider FWS toward the payment due each semester. If a student does wish to apply his FWS earnings to his student account in payment of charges, he must contact the Bursar to complete the request for a FWS payment plan. Details of the plan will be provided by the Bursar.

  • When planning how the FWS award may affect your annual costs, you must project the actual amount you expect to earn. In many cases, the actual amount may be less than the total allowed by your Financial Aid award.

IMPORTANT! PLEASE READ!!

Steps to determine your eligibility and how to apply for the Federal Work Study jobs:

1. Visit the AWARDS tab at https://myfa.taylor.edu.  If you see FWS listed in your awards, you are eligible for the amount listed. (ie: $1,200 per semester = approximately 9 1/2 hours per week)

2. If you plan to work on campus, you must go to the Human Resources Office in order to fill out required employment forms - remember, this is an actual job.  A combination of identification documents must be presented to the HR Office before, and NO LATER than 3 days after, you start work or you cannot be paid.  Must be originals - no photocopies are accepted.  Most students use Drivers License / Passport , Social Security Card and/or Birth Certificate.  Contact HR for a complete list of other acceptable documents, if needed.

3. CLICK Here to Read the FWS Handbook.  This will explain the program, pay rates, pay periods, and much more.

4. Search for on campus jobs by visiting the Career Development Website : http://taylor.experience.com/er/security/login.jsp , starting August 1st.  Follow the directions on how to apply for each specific position.

Check https://myfa.taylor.edu at the Awards tab to determine your eligibility in the FWS program.  A FWS award of $1200 = aproximately 9 1/2 hours per week.

PLEASE NOTE:

Contact the Career Development Office (765-998-5382) only for issues with finding on campus employment; they cannot give you information about your FWS eligibility or financial aid information.

Contact your Supervisor first, then Human Resources (765-998-5237) for payroll questions/issues - HR cannot help with your eligibility/financial aid questions.

Contact the Financial Aid Office (765-998-5358) for eligibility/financial aid questions.

*If a student is not eligible for FWS, a limited number of jobs are available  in leadership positions and/or other employment opportunities, however FWS students will have first opportunity.
