Middle East Studies Program
The Council for Christian Colleges and Universities sponsors a Middle East Studies Program (MESP) currently located in Jerusalem. Junior and senior students are exposed to the vast resources of Jerusalem during the 15-week fall or spring semester. Students are exposed to the complex issues behind regional conflict, gain an awareness of the people and culture of the Middle East, and are educated on the global dimension of the Islamic faith.
The program includes travel to Egypt, Lebanon, Jordan, Morocco, Spain, Syria, Tunisia and Turkey, dependent upon regional conditions. Involvement in a local service project is an important component of the program. Availability of the program is dependent upon review of current security conditions.
MESP encourages and equips students to relate to the Muslim world in an informed, constructive, and Christ-centered manner at a time of tension and change. Students earn 16 semester hours of credit.
"MESP provided me with an amazing, eye-opening experience that really challenged the way I look at the world. If you're interested in traveling the Middle East, learning Arabic and wrestling with the tough issues that face the M.E. today, MESP is the program for you. You'll get to live in the largest city in Africa and the M.E. and have the opportunity to invest into the lives of Egyptians. This semester abroad truly changed me." -- Peter Barrett
