The following resources have been compiled by the librarians with specific emphasis on resources valuable for use in International Studies.

Differences between the search engine (Internet and Internet-based resources) and databases (periodicals: magazines and journals.)

Online versions of journals or magazines (i.e. International Studies Quarterly) published by the International Studies Association.
Reference Books
- CIA World Factbook 910.W89 (also found online here)
- Background Notes (US Department of State) 910.5 B12 (link from the Zondervan catalog here)
print copy is out of date. Online version is updated regularly. -
Country Study series: also known as Area handbook series. Search the online catalog by the name of the country and kw: country study. Country study will be the subtitle after the name of the country.

includes general information. -
LexisNexis Academic
New York Times through LexisNexis current. LexisNexis also includes many other major newspapers in full-text. (see also ProQuest NYTimes Archives.) -
Academic Search Premier
good for full text articles from journals and magazines or Wilson OmniFile -
World Cat
good for searching for available books and cataloged web sites. Many of these resources may be obtained through interlibrary loan (ILL) from other libraries. -
CQ Researcher
includes summaries of perspectives from various points of view. -
WorldCat
(1851-present) full text of the New York Times (searching is advanced and can be complex.)ProQuest New York Times Archives -
NetLibrary
full text of books including some reference materials. -
Credo Reference
good for searching for quick facts or overviews.
Specialized Internet Resources
(gives excellent summaries and abstracts; however, using interlibrary loan will save you a lot of money. Using this to obtain articles is NOT recommended since there are MANY other less costly options.)
News Sites
Culture Shock series
Search the online catalog by the key words "culture shock". Culture shock will be the subtitle after the name of the country.
Citation Help
- RefWorks
- Refworks requires individual login and password. Can create works cited page by uploading/downloading references to your files.
- Refworks can keep multiple files at one time.
