The Ultimate Newspaper Stand

10.23.2007

Imagine a newspaper stand in New York or London with an array of newspapers from different countries. Are there any such newspaper stands with 500 different papers? Google News puts you in touch with electronic articles from many newspapers but now you can read entire newspapers from around the world. For at least one month (during a trial subscription), that's what is now available to you through a resource called PressDisplay. With more than 500 newspapers from Algeria to Zimbabwe, there are U.S. papers from the Boston Herald to the LA Times. There are more than thirty newspapers from the UK alone. Not only can you read the latest edition of these papers online, you can print or email pages, too; you can even blog an article. "Smart navigating" is available for select newspapers. This feature allows you to activate an audio version of an article and create an English (or other) translation. (The title list indicates these options through an icon.) You can also search for keywords across the newspapers available through PressDisplay. For example, a search on "Putin and Iran" returns over 500 articles.

We encourage you to explore this new resource. We also want your help in determining whether it will be used -- and worth the cost of subscription. Please send your comments via Ask-A-Librarian or to Dan Bowell, University Librarian.
