(UPDATE) Printing Problems Using the Thin Client Computers

The thin client reference computers in the library are now capable of printing, but due to another technical issue you may need to add the right printer before you print. When the computer are rebooted they restore back to incorrect printer connections. To resolve this, you must connect to one of the library printers.Here's how to add the correct printer if you are trying to print to the printer closest to the reference desk:
- Choose Start (Left bottom corner of the screen)
- Choose Printers and Faxes
- On the left hand menu of the Printers and Faxes window, choose Add Printer.
- When the Welcome to the Add Printer Wizard dialogue appears choose Next.
- Choose the "A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer" and click on the Next button.
- Choose the "Connect to this printer (or to browse for a printer, select this option and click Next):" then enter the following:
\\printsrv1\ZonRefRed
in the Name: box and click the Next button. - For "Do you want to use this printer as the default printer?" choose Yes and click on the Next button.
- Click on the Finish button.
Here's how to add the correct printer if you are trying to print to the printer furthest from the reference desk:
- Choose Start (Left bottom corner of the screen)
- Choose Printers and Faxes
- On the left hand menu of the Printers and Faxes window, choose Add Printer.
- When the Welcome to the Add Printer Wizard dialogue appears choose Next.
- Choose the "A network printer, or a printer attached to another computer" and click on the Next button.
- Choose the "Connect to this printer (or to browse for a printer, select this option and click Next):" then enter the following:
\\printsrv1\ZonRefBlue
in the Name: box and click the Next button. - For "Do you want to use this printer as the default printer?" choose Yes and click on the Next button.
- Click on the Finish button.
If you restart one of the thin clients, all saved documents on the computer will be erased. All documents that have been downloaded or saved to the thin client are deleted upon a restart. Also any printer connections added will be removed and the old printer profile will be restored. This means that the correct printer will need to be added again.
Again, be aware that the Reference Desk has a flash drive you can borrow if you have a document you need to save and move to another computer so you can print it. Feel free to ask the librarian about borrowing it.
