Macs in the Library

10.08.2009

Macs in the Library West WallTo better represent the diversity of computing on campus, the library now has several Macintosh computers available for use by students, faculty, staff and guests. There are four Macintosh computers now housed on the west wall of the main level of the library.

The machines are not cutting edge, but they do represent a move toward a more agnostic approach to the provision of computing resources. Currently, about 30% of the student population uses an Apple computer. The library hasn't matched that percentage, but the addition of these machines are a good step forward toward a more substantive representation.

There are two eMacs and 2 G4 models, running on OS X. In the immediate, they are open for immediate access without a login, but ultimately will be set up to allow users to log in using their Taylor network login and password. This will allow us to connect the user to their personal network folder (PNF or X: drive) automatically.

We would appreciate any feedback you have on the addition of these particular machines or the addition of Apple computers in the library. You can communicate this through our comments area or through the options indicated in the Ask-A-Librarian section of the web site.
