Music Ensembles

All Taylor students, regardless of major, are encouraged to participate in the various ensembles that the music department offers.

Choral

Concert Chorale
The Concert Chorale is a select group of approximately 60 vocalists, chosen by audition. This SATB (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) ensemble performs a choral repertoire of sacred classics selected from Renaissance to Contemporary periods, including hymns and spirituals.  

The Chorale tours annually during spring break and frequently travels overseas (they traveled to Greece in 2004 and the Bahamas in 2007). Other performances include participation in the Indianapolis Praise Gathering and frequent appearances with the Marion Philharmonic Orchestra.

Taylor Sounds
The Taylor Sounds is a select group of 16 vocalists chosen by audition. This SATB (soprano, alto, tenor, bass) ensemble presents a varied choral repertoire from Renaissance to contemporary Christian and gospel arrangements. The Taylor Sounds perform throughout the Midwest on weekends and on annual tours.

University Chorus
The University Chorus is a mixed choral ensemble open by audition to all students at Taylor University. The choir sings diverse literature from all historic periods and performs on campus in chapel and concert settings.

Gospel Choir
The Gospel Choir is an ensemble open by audition to all students at Taylor University. The choir performs a variety of gospel music and presents concerts on and off campus, including gospel music festivals and chapel services.

Adoration Chorus
The Adoration Chorus is made up of female vocalists. This choir utilizes contemporary sacred choral arrangements, spirituals and worship songs as a means of leading others in worship, performing in churches, schools and university functions.

Instrumental

Wind Ensemble
The Wind Ensemble is open to all wind and percussion players by audition. The ensemble performs classic band repertoire, sacred literature, transcriptions and arrangements.  The band tours annually during spring break.

Pep Band
The Pep Band exists to provide musical excitement for home football and basketball games. The band is open to all students who enjoy performing contemporary music.  

Jazz Ensemble
The Jazz Ensemble is open to all wind and percussion players by audition. This ensemble performs contemporary stage band literature as well as sacred jazz and jazz classics. The Jazz Ensemble also performs two concerts each semester and tours in local schools, churches and regional jazz festivals.

Jazz Combos
Jazz Combos are select ensembles chosen by audition. The combos explore improvisational styling and perform at least one concert each semester. Beginning, intermediate and advanced level instruction is given.

Symphony Orchestra
The Symphony Orchestra is open to all string/wind players by audition. The orchestra performs music from all periods and frequently combines with one of the vocal ensembles to present sacred oratorios and cantatas as well as opera and musicals. Winds and percussion players are also utilized each semester.

Taylor Ringers & Bell Choir

Taylor Ringers
The Taylor Ringers consists of 13 members chosen by audition. The group performs a variety of four to five octave bell ringing literature of a moderate to difficult nature on campus (chapel, banquets), off campus (outreach programs) and on tours each spring.

Handbell Choir
The Handbell Choir is open to all students with bell ringing experience as well as to students with no previous experience who are willing to learn the art of bell ringing. The group performs in chapel and in programs on and off campus.

Opera

Opera Theater
The Opera Theater performs one opera or musical each semester. Participation is by audition and is open to music students and ensembles members.
