Dr. Rothrock in prairie with students Alicia Bever and Ann EbertUpland Prairie Restoration

The 25-acre tall grass prairie is in a mature stage of development. Ann Ebert O'Neill '06, under supervision of Dr. Paul Rothrock, researched why treatment with nitrogen caused higher weed content. Dr. Edwin R. Squiers and Dr. Rothrock joined with AVIS Industrial Corporation to establish the prairie restoration project and study the impact of various management techniques on the development of the plant community.

 Dr. Paul Rothrock led Midwestern botanists in the production of a plant database enumerating the quality of each plant species native or naturalized in Indiana.The project was funded by the Environmental Protection Agency.

With the help of the EPA and Indiana DNR, Dr. Edwin Squiers led development of a rapid assessment protocol of wetland quality that produced a web site wetlands in northeastern Indiana.

Mississinewa River Watershed

The EPA and IDEM provided a grant to Dr. Edwin R. Squiers for a preliminary three-year study of pollution in the Mississinewa watershed. Goals include selecting and testing models for estimating the release of sediments in the river during rain events. William Winner '03 presented at the Indiana Academy of Science and created a website. An analysis of land use and sediment loading in the Mississinewa Watershed, East Central Indiana

Flora of Mounds State Park

Research was conducted by Dr. Paul Rothrock that produced a web site about the flora in Mounds State Park.

Sedges of Indiana

Research was conducted by Dr. Paul Rothrock that produced a web site about sedges, and was preparation for a book entitled Sedges of Indiana: Pictorial Guide to Bulrushes, Spike Rushes, and Their Relatives.
