Science Leading to Stewardship and Service
Our department seeks to develop the critical thinking skills characteristic of a scientific mind, and to do so in a setting that nurtures an ethic of Christian stewardship, and an attitude of service to God, to His creation and to society. Directed student research prepares students for leadership positions using their scientific knowledge, ethical stewardship and technical skills. The EES program offers these characteristics:
- a strong curriculum of basic science as well as specialized courses relating to organismal biology, ecology, geology and hydrology
- the beautiful Randall Environmental Science Center situated adjacent to a 65-acre arboretum and near a large prairie restoration effort
- opportunities for summer field study in the Black Hills of South Dakota and research with faculty and graduate students
- a 4+1 option allowing Taylor University environmental science majors to complete both a bachelor's and master's degree in five years
- a faculty specifically devoted to environmental stewardship as reflected in research and scholarly publications in environmental ethics, plant population biology, restoration ecology, watershed evaluation and wetland assessment methodologies
