Off-Campus Programs
Taylor University offers many different off-campus programs for students to explore. Several provide students with general studies in which art students are able to pursue artistic ventures in their spare time from various locations around the world. One program that is targeted specifically at Christian art students is The Orvieto Semester in Italy through Gordon College.
This program provides American students with an opportunity to learn about past traditions in art, acquire inspiration to be channeled into their own artistic ventures, through courses in Italian culture and studio arts including painting, sculpture and ceramics in the unique context of the ancient town of Orvieto, situated conveniently between Florence and Rome. Information can also be accessed online by clicking here.
A second program more applicable to design students which also seeks to integrate Christian faith with the study of the arts is the Australia Studies Centre. Students have the opportunity to earn 15 to 17 hours of credit through the Wesley Institute. All students enroll in the required course "Australian History, Culture and Society," and select three to four additional courses from comprehensive offerings in the areas of dance, design, drama, music, theology and integrative studies. Information can also be accessed by visiting www.bestsemester.com.
A third program, NYCAMS (New York Center for Art and Media Studies) http://nycams.bethel.edu , offers an intensive immersion in the New York City arts community as well as internship opportunities.
Each of these programs address the integration of faith and art in a deliberate and effective manner.
Taylor University's visual arts office and Off-Campus Studies department both hold information on these programs.
