Funds and Endowments

Beginning as early as 1891, when Jacob Kichler offered President Thaddeus Reade a five dollar bill marking the first contribution to the Samuel Morris Faith Fund, Taylor has sought to aide others like Morris around the world.

Samuel Morris Scholars

In 1996, after receiving a $3.15 million grant from Lilly Endowment, Inc., Taylor established the Samuel Morris Scholars program. The endowment awarded approximately 125 Indiana high school students with amounts ranging from $2,000 to $6,000. It ended with the 2003-2004 school year.

Sammy Morris International Endowed Scholarship Fund

When Lowell and Virginia Hatfield learned that the original Faith Fund had been inactive for several years, they quickly acted to ensure Morris' testimony would continue to go forward. They established the Sammy Morris International Endowed Scholarship Fund which currently awards one international student a sum ranging from $500 to $5,000 annually.

If you would like to contribute to the Sammy Morris Endowed International Student Scholarship Fund, simply send a check payable to Taylor University and include "Sammy Morris Scholarship Fund" on the memo line. Samuel Morris Society

Just as men and women in the 19th century gave sacrificially so a penniless Liberian named Samuel Morris might attend Taylor University, the Taylor Fund continues the spirt of the Samuel Morris Faith Fund today, standing in the gap between dreams and reality. Samuel Morris Society members are men and women who intentionally, humbly and sacrificially support that Taylor Fund, faithfully helping to bridge the gap between tuition and the actual cost of a Taylor University education for students, like Morris, who hunger to be "apostles of simple faith."
