Updated Road Construction Information

Access is now available to the campus via State Road 22 both northbound and southbound through Upland.

Milling and repaving is scheduled to begin Friday, June 19, moving east (from near I-69) to east (State Road 26), with flaggers allowing one lane of traffic to move through the construction area.

Further updates will be posted as they become available.

 

Important Road Construction Information

According to the Indiana Department of Transportation (INDOT), the following road construction projects will take place in the coming weeks and months:

  • A construction project on State Road 22 from I-69 to State Road 26 is ongoing. Beginning Monday, June 8, State Road 22 will be closed from Eighth Street to the entrance of Avis Industrial Corporation, thus closing both the Reade Avenue and main campus entrances on State Road 22. During the closure, there will be signs posted on State Road 22 at Eighth Street on the north side of Upland indicating a detour to Taylor University, as well as on 700 S. (Overlook Road) just south of campus. Entrance to campus may be gained by using the north entrance at Eighth Street and Reade Avenue, Eighth Street and Hodson Drive, or 700 S. and the south entrance road between English and Haakenson Halls, as well as First, Second and Third Streets at Reade Avenue. The closure is expected to last five days, but unforeseen delays may extend the timeframe.

  • The remainder of the project will be a moving operation with flaggers on each end allowing one direction or other to pass. Following culvert work, etc., milling and repaving will begin on or before June 22 and last approximately three-four weeks. All dates are contingent on weather, unknown soil conditions, etc.

  • Construction on State Road 26 south of the TU campus will take place beginning in July or early August and continue for three-four months. State Road 26 will be closed during that time. Because project plans are not yet complete, further information will be made available as provided by INDOT.

  • Signage and barricades are in place throughout Upland and the surrounding area.

From West Chicago, IL

  • Take I-294 S  toward Indiana (portions of this road are tolls).
  • I-294 becomes I-80 East/I-94 East.
  • Via Exit 11, merge onto I-65 South toward Indianapolis.
  • Exit I-65 at Exit 253 to State Road 30 East. 
  • Continue East on State Road 30 to State Road 31 South.
  • Turn right (or south) onto State Road 31 South (toward Kokomo). 
  • Continue south on State Road 31 to State Road 22 (in Kokomo).
  • Turn left (east) onto State Road 22 and continue through Gas City, under I-69 and through Upland to campus main entrance.

From Columbus, OH

  • Take US-33 West toward Marysville & Bellefontaine.
  • At I-75, US-33 becomes State Road 29. 
  • Continue west on State Road 29 to the Ohio/Indiana state line where this road becomes State Road 67. 
  • Once inside Indiana, continue west approximately 8 miles.
  • This road now becomes State Road 18.
  • Continue west to State Road 5. 
  • Turn left (south) onto State Road 5 and travel five (5) miles to State Road 22.
  • Turn left (east) onto State Road 22 through Upland to campus main entrance.

From Detroit, MI

  • Take I-94 West to I-69 South at Exit 108.
  • Continue on I-69 South to Exit 59 (State Road 22).
  • Turn left (east) onto State Road 22 through Upland to campus main entrance.

From Fort Wayne International Airport

  • Depart Fort Wayne International Airport on Keller Rd.
  • Turn right (North-West) onto W Perimeter Dr.
  • Turn left (South-West) onto Indianapolis Rd.
  • Bear right (West) onto I-469
  • Bear right (West) onto I-69
  • Turn left at Exit 59 onto IN-22 and follow into Upland
  • Taylor will be on your right

From Grand Rapids, MI

  • Take I-96 East to Lansing.
  • Use Exit 90 and merge onto I-69 South.
  • Continue on I-69 South to Exit 59 (State Road 22).
  • Turn left (east) on State Road 22 through Upland to campus main entrance.

From Indianapolis International Airport

  • Depart the airport
  • Follow the signs for 70 East.
  • Stay on 70 East to Exit 44 and merge onto I-465 North.
  • Use I-465 North to Exit 37 and merge onto I-69 North.
  • Continue I-69 North to Exit 59
  • Turn right onto IN-22 and follow into Upland
  • Taylor will be on your right

From Louisville, KY

  • Take I-65 North to Indianapolis.
  • Use Exit 106 and merge onto I-465 East/North.
  • Follow I-465 East/North to I-69 North. Use Exit 37 and merge onto I-69 North. 
  • Continue I-69 North to Exit 59
  • Turn right onto IN-22 and follow into Upland
  • Taylor will be on your right

From Pittsburgh, PA

  • Take I-79 S and go Southwest
  • Continue on I-70 W and go West for 163 miles to Exit 93
  • Take I-270 N Ramp
  • Continue onto I-270 E and go Northeast
  • Bear right on ramp at exit 17B to US-33 W (OH-161 W)
  • Continue onto US-33 W and go Northwest
  • Continue onto OH-29 W and go West
  • Continue onto IN-67 and go West
  • Continue onto IN-18 and go West to IN-5
  • Turn left onto IN-5 (900 E) and go South
  • Turn left onto US-35 (IN-22) and go East
  • Continue onto IN-22 (Main St) and go East
