Kelly Packard Named Women's Basketball Head CoachPublished: Jul 01, 2013
Taylor University and Athletic Director Dr. Angie Fincannon announced on Monday that Kelly Packard has been hired as the 19th head coach in the history of the Trojan women's basketball program.
Packard has won three championships in six years as a head coach at the NCAA Division I and professional ranks, most recently serving as the head women's basketball coach for four seasons at Ball State University.
"Kelly Packard is a uniquely qualified candidate for Taylor," said Fincannon. "She is a tested, successful coach but the centrifugal force for Coach Packard is her ministry of leading and helping young women grow, develop spiritually and succeed on and off the court."
Packard led the Cardinals from 2008 through 2012, setting a program record with 26 victories during the 2008-2009 season. The record-setting first season with BSU also featured the program's first Mid-American Conference Tournament Championship, its first NCAA Tournament appearance and a historic, 71-55, first-round win in the NCAA Tournament against the two-time defending national champion, the University of Tennessee.
