The role of and rationale for the piano in worship settings will be the topic as Professor of Music Dr. Leon Harshenin presents Musical Offerings: Classical Piano Literature for Worship Services, Monday, Oct. 5, at 7:30 p.m., in the Butz Carruth Recital Hall.

This lecture, with demonstrations of musical examples, explores biblical rationale for including classical piano pieces in worship services. It also offers guidelines for selecting suitable examples from classical piano literature that could be presented as preludes, offertories, meditations and postludes in worship settings.

Harshenin is beginning his 18th year as Coordinator of Piano Studies in the Department of Music at Taylor University. He also teaches piano literature and music theory. A native of Vancouver, British Columbia, Harshenin earned a BM and MM from The Juilliard School and a DMA in Piano Performance and Pedagogy from the University of Michigan.

The public is invited to attend this free event.
