For the third year in a row, Taylor placed first for Documentary Programs by the Broadcast Education Association (BEA). New this year, Taylor ranked #1 in Audio Programs, #5 for Film and Video Program, and #7 overall.
The rankings, which began in 2022, are founded on the results from the BEA Festival of Media Arts. The BEA Festival is an international media competition focused on student and faculty creative endeavors. In the last five years alone, nearly 7,250 student creative works were submitted from BEA’s more than 300 member institutions around the globe for BEA’s extensive juried process. Taylor’s Film & Media Arts students have long maintained a strong presence at the BEA Festival, with this year placing #5 among 159 schools for Film & Video Programs nationally.
“We were so happy to learn that we remained in the #1 spot for the Documentary category, based on the award-winning work of our students over the last five years. And yet, the highest honor is to earn the trust of the people whose stories we tell,” said Kathy Bruner, Department Co-Chair and Professor of Film & Media Arts.
Taylor’s first-ever #1 spot for audio production was a welcome surprise. That category includes a wide range of projects, including commercials, audio feature stories, podcasts, music recordings, and more.
“Most of the audio-only projects come from our Audio Production class which serves students across campus, especially our freshman film majors. Earning first place speaks to the caliber of student we draw at Taylor,” said Lincoln Reed, Assistant Professor of Film & Media Arts.
BEA is the premiere international academic media organization, driving insights, excellence in media production, and career advancement for educators, students, and professionals. There are currently more than 2,000 individual and institutional members worldwide. Visit www.beaweb.org for more information.
The Festival of Media Arts was created and is organized by BEA faculty across the globe to honor the amazing works of both students and faculty. It is an international refereed exhibition of faculty and student creative activities and provides a venue for exhibition of winning submissions, including recognition of project authors, through showcase and awards sessions held during BEA’s annual convention in Las Vegas.
