I was born and raised in Puerto Rico. Spanish is my first language, and I have to be honest, learning English was tough at first! Because of this, I felt "different" sometimes and like I just didn't fit in. It's hard to make friends when you can't communicate. But I found that humor and kindness are the same in any language, and this helped me to get to know people in a unique way, without needing the perfect word.
I was called to Taylor in 2018 to be a Hall Director. I didn't know much about Upland or how small it really was, but I fell in love with the humor and kindness of its students and Taylor's amazing community. I enjoy being a part of what God is doing at Taylor and showing my students how much they are loved and that they are here for a purpose.
I am also a cancer survivor (finished my last treatment in December 2020) and the overwhelming love, care and support I received (and continue receiving) from the Taylor community is something I thank God for every day! Taylor is my home!
My advice to incoming freshman is: be yourself...be open to new adventures...be humorous and kind!
