Adjunct Trumpet Professor
Dr. Gilmar Cavalcante is a trumpet player, teacher, researcher, and music entrepreneur native of Brazil. He earned a Doctor of Arts in Music/Trumpet Performance and Entrepreneurial Music from Ball State University, a Master of Music Performance in Trumpet from Valdosta State University, a Certificate of Specialist in Music Education from Universidade Candido Mendes (Rio de Janeiro, Brazil) and a Bachelor of Music in Trumpet Performance from Universidade Federal da Paraíba (Joao Pessoa, Brazil).
As a performer, Dr. Cavalcante serves as principal trumpet of Manchester Symphony, 3rd/Utility Trumpet at Anderson Symphony and as guest performer at Kokomo Symphony. He has also appeared as a soloist in the United States and Brazil and shared the stage with artists such as Winton Marsalis, Canadian Brass, Sandy Patty, Steve Amerson and featured in the recording of the album Take me to the World by Broadway artist Sutton Foster.
Dr. Cavalcante has presented and published research in the United States and Brazil, including at the International Trumpet Guild, Brazilian Trumpet Association, Brazilian Trombone Association Journal, and has released albums available on streaming platforms such as Spotify, Apple Music, etc. Dr. Cavalcante continues to serve the music and trumpet community by editing, translating, and publishing books such as Daily Trumpet Exercises by the American trumpet teacher and conductor Albert Ligotti, Twelve Duets for Trumpet by the Brazilian composer and teacher Glauber Santiago, Christmas 4 Trumpets, and the 2025 released book Music: Art or Market?
