After graduating from Taylor in December 2019 with my degree in chemistry, I decided to look for work in the pharmaceutical industry. I applied to work at a small company called Exelead, in Indianapolis. Because of my work in analytical chemistry during my time at Taylor, I got the job. Since working at Exelead I have continued to perfect my chemistry techniques and I have learned so much more on the job. I’m now a Senior Analyst in the Quality Control lab. Other than work, I also got married in May of 2020. I now live in Plainfield Indiana.
Working in the chemistry lab and living in the dorms were my most valuable experiences. The lab work helped me to learn skills outside of class that were more hands on and valuable for interviews. Living in Swallow Robin Hall helped me to create close connections with my friends and gave me a great place to learn about other people and experience life together.
All of my professors impacted my growth significantly. When I first started at Taylor it was my intention to get my degree and then go to medical school. After talking with many professors, I decided that medical school was not for me, and going into industry was the correct path. Dr. King specifically helped me to hone skills that were immediately useful in the line of work I am in now.
I meet a lot of different people at my job. Taylor’s foundational core has helped me to interact with others that I might not be able to otherwise. Graduates can also use Taylor’s education to understand the other parts of life. I deal mostly with chemistry, but there is also a large business aspect of my job, as well as needing proficient writing skills from the liberal arts foundation core. I might not have these skills without Taylor’s education.
You can be successful without getting another degree. When I first entered college, I always thought I’d go for another degree. There are other options that might be the right path for you (plus you can make money).
