While at Taylor, I majored in chemistry with a minor in computer science. My interest in these two fields conveniently intersects in the field of computational chemistry. I worked on a research project in computational chemistry during my time at Taylor and really grew to love the field. However, above computational chemistry, my true passion is teaching. After graduating from Taylor, I began a PhD in computational chemistry with the goal of becoming a professor. I am currently a little over halfway done with my PhD, and I am excited to see where God leads me in the years to come.
I started at Taylor as a chemistry major, and after the first couple years I still hadn't found a branch of chemistry that I was really excited about. Because of my interest in computer science, my advisor suggested I try computational chemistry research. I ended up really enjoying that, so much so that after graduating from Taylor I started a PhD in computational chemistry. Without the influence and help from the professors at Taylor, I would not have discovered this field that I am so passionate about. I had several opportunities to work in the chemistry department as a teaching assistant and a tutor. These experiences showed me that I love to teach and mentor others in their education and have shaped my future career goals.
The professors at Taylor greatly impacted my time there and helped me to grow as a chemist and a person. I learned so much about chemistry, but even more about leadership and how to bring my faith into my education and future career aspirations.
The liberal arts foundational core that Taylor provides has made me a more well-rounded person. Improving all aspects of my education was greatly beneficial for my future career goals as well as improving myself as a person.
Say yes to the opportunities you are presented with while at Taylor. You never know when you might find something you are really passionate about. These opportunities can greatly impact the trajectory of your life.
