In the Autism Spectrum Disorder concentration, students will be introduced to current research and theoretical models for understanding autism spectrum disorder and educational approaches. Students will advance their skills in behavior intervention and evaluate the resulting effects of implementing behavior intervention plans. They will learn to individualize interventions that account for sensory sensitivities, and mental health masking while promoting social skills, self-regulation-management, and social communications. Each course includes 10 hours of clinical experience.

In the Intense Intervention concentration, students will be prepared to take curriculum principles and research-based strategies to design instruction for individuals with significant disabilities. The courses equipped students to understand legal aspects, individualized programs, and use effective communication and collaboration to promote the success of individuals with significant disabilities. Courses include a field experience teaching students.

Students in the Mild Intervention concentration study the responsibilities and rights of individuals with disabilities and those who support them. Coursework is designed to equip educators to adapt curriculum and apply effective instructional strategies to meet individual needs. The program also emphasizes methods for special education teachers based on the science of reading. Some courses include hands-on field experiences to reinforce learning.
