Destinations

Six to eight teams serve at various destinations each year where Taylor has established long-term partnerships with host ministries.

Act justly. Love mercy. Walk humbly.

He has showed you, O man, what is good. And what does the Lord require of you? To act justly and to love mercy and to walk humbly with your God. Micah 6:8

Lighthouse 2010 Destinations

Czech Republic - Caleb's HeartCzech Republic

The Czech Republic has a castle on nearly every hill, yet the throne of heart after heart is empty. This beautiful country endured more than 40 years of harsh communism that was very hostile toward religion. Today less than 2% of the population is evangelical Christian and many young people have embraced atheism. Opportunities with Caleb's Heart include teaching English in public schools as a way to open doors for further outreach, ministering to Gypsies and orphans, serving in local churches and evangelistic outreach in various settings. The team will also visit Auschwitz and Krakow in Poland.

Ecuador - Verbo Church

Based in the colonial city of Cuenca in the Andes Mountains, this team will serve alongside Verbo (Word) Church's ministries. Less than 6% of the area is evangelical Christian and the group will be involved in compassionate service to children in crisis, youth outreach, work projects, evangelism and discipleship. The team will be welcomed into the homes of host families from the church. The team will likely spend a week in a smaller town helping with a church plant.

Ethiopia - Project MercyEthiopia

Ethiopia's 70 million people are proud of the fact that their African country was never colonized. They are friendly and welcoming but their needs are great as many live in absolute poverty. Working alongside community development organization Project Mercy, the group will teach and tutor in Project Mercy's school for 1,400 students. In this predominantly Muslim, rural area of Yetebon, these students are receiving an education that would otherwise be unavailable. The team will also provide leadership development seminars, interact with orphans and visit surrounding government schools.

Guatemala - Mission Impact & Hechos 2:8

A beautiful land of mountains, volcanoes and lakes, Guatemala is known for its colorfully dressed people, Mayan ruins and coffee production. Yet many Guatemalans lack access to adequate drinking water and sanitation, and they often lack the education and finances to develop such resources. Thus, water-related diseases are a major cause of illness and death. This team will partner with Mission Impact and Hechos 2:8 to provide clean water, sanitation and hygiene training in the name of Christ. The group will continue work near Antigua to implement other projects in appropriate technology, education, health care and nutrition.

India - Youth for ChristIndia

Lighthouse will return to India for an 12th year of ministry with India Youth for Christ. India is a land of amazing contrasts-while its thriving movie and computer industries continue to grow, 300 million Indians go daily without enough to eat. Eighty percent of the country's 1.17 billion people are Hindu. India's great social, religious and linguistic diversity make it a fascinating place to minister. This team will work alongside YFC in southern India doing performing arts ministry in schools, youth rallies, and churches. The team will also help with work projects and minister to orphans.

Paraguay - LETRA Paraguay, OneVerse, & Misiones Cristianas

This South American country has a warm Latin culture, subtle beauty and several national parks. Unfortunately it also has one of the smallest percentages (3-4%) of evangelical Christians on the continent and there is much superstitious traditionalism and occult-related activity. This team will partner with missionaries to serve among the Aché indigenous people for whom Taylor is funding a Bible translation through One-Verse. They will provide children's and discipleship programs and help with a construction projects while building relationships with the people.

Southeast Asia - Business As MissionBAM

This Muslim majority nation has a very ethnically diverse populace with over 600 distinct people groups. This year the trip will be the first Lighthouse Business As Mission (BAM) project for a small team of 6-8 business majors or business-interested students. The group will serve among the Sea Tribe people. They will experience an ethno-tourism business through a home-stay with subsistence fishing families who are open, friendly and accepting of newcomers and will help with other business ventures alongside hosts who provide an excellent model of contextualized ministry among Muslims.
