English Department

The department of English at Taylor University offers degrees in Creative Writing, Literature, and English Education.  As a department, we believe that God reveals himself to humanity in his role as Creator, that he materialized his identity in Christ the Word, and that he continues his work in us through the Spirit as Teacher.

As a result, we invite students to join us in developing aesthetic appreciation, valuing and evaluating the process of critical inquiry, engaging the process of imaginative refinement, and establishing a pattern of interaction with the written word that expresses the life of the mind.

English majors have opportunities to attend undergraduate writing conferences, tutor in the Writing Center, work on the staff of the annual literary magazine, Parnassus, and present papers at conferences.

The department of English also supports the general education curriculum through computer-aided writing, which helps freshmen master word processing, editing, online indexes, and the proper use of Internet resources.
