Music Department
The Music Department offers Bachelor of Arts, Bachelor of Science, and Bachelor of Music degrees. The courses offered in these programs (.pdf) provide the student with an opportunity to specialize in an area of his/her personal interest. In support of the Taylor University mission, the Music Department exists to educate students on the value and integrity of music as an expressive art form, thereby fostering lifelong learning and appreciation of music and an understanding of the ways in which music may minister to a world in need.
The Music Department, housed in the Smith-Hermanson Music Center, consists of eight full-time and approximately twenty part-time faculty members who serve approximately 250 students each semester in applied music, ensemble, and academic work. The facility is equipped with new pianos, recording and technology labs, a Clavinova piano lab, practice rooms for all instruments, and a superb recital hall equipped with Steinway and Bosendorfer concert grand pianos.
