President Eugene B. Habecker (`68)

Dr. and Mrs. Habecker President of Taylor UniversityDr. Eugene B. Habecker has served as president of Taylor University since 2005.  He holds degrees from Taylor University, Ball State University and the University of Michigan (PhD.). He also earned a law degree (J.D.) from Temple University and is a member (inactive) of the Pennsylvania Bar. He completed the Institute for Educational Management program at Harvard University and is the recipient of honorary degrees from numerous colleges and universities.

Prior to coming to Taylor in 2005, Dr. Habecker was the president of the American Bible Society (1991-2005) and Huntington University (1981-1991).  He also served in administrative positions at Huntington, George Fox University (Newberg, Ore.) and Eastern University (St. Davids, Pa.).

Dr. Habecker has authored numerous articles and four books:  Affirmative Action in the Independent College (1977), The Other Side of Leadership (1987), Leading with a Follower’s Heart (1990) and Rediscovering the Soul of Leadership (1996). He is also the recipient of numerous honors, including Who’s Who in America, Who’s Who in American Education, Directory of American Scholars and Two Thousand Notable Americans.  In 1998, he was named Distinguished Alumnus for Professional Achievement by Taylor University and the National Association of Evangelicals (NAE) named him Layperson of the Year in 1999.

Marylou Habecker, first lady of the University, completed her B.S. degree from Taylor University (’68) majoring in Elementary Education.  She completed the M.A.E. at Ball State University.  She is a speaker, writer and artist.

Her Board experience includes prior membership on the boards of the Women’s Bible Society of New York City, Nyack College, Taylor University, and the Museum of Biblical Art (MOBIA-NYC) and Overseas Council.

Between them, they have traveled to more than 90 countries in Asia, Africa, North and South America, Europe and the Middle East. 

Dr. and Mrs. Habecker are the parents of three grown children and they have four grandchildren.
