As the 2022-2023 academic year concludes on the Taylor University campus, several construction projects are in full swing. From residence hall renovations and dining options to academic and athletic buildings, we are looking forward to a new season of growth.

Horne Academic Center

With an anticipated opening in the fall of 2024, extensive construction will be underway this summer for the new Horne Academic Center that will house the film program and provide space for entrepreneurship and education initiatives.

Currently, footings are being installed to create the foundation for the steel framework that will be set during the summer. The first piece of steel has been put in, and students were welcomed to sign it before leaving campus for summer break.

In the fall, after the steel frame has been set, the walls and the roof will be put up. Work on the interior will begin in the winter.

Stillman Fieldhouse

This summer’s renovation plans for the Stillman Fieldhouse include new locker rooms for the football team and lacrosse team, a lounge for football, team meeting rooms, and practice space for both the baseball and softball teams.

Masonry is being put up, flooring for the showers is concluding its installation, and a space has been cut for the new stairwell. Most of the renovations are projected to be completed by the end of the summer, ready for the football team to make use of the facilities when the season starts in the fall.

Hodson Dining Commons

This summer and fall, the Hodson Dining Commons will undergo major renovations, which will include rebuilding the entire kitchen and serving locations (including a new allergen-free location), upgrading the dining room furniture and flooring, installing a new elevator for better accessibility, building new restrooms in the current Isely Room, constructing an outdoor patio, and expanding the event space with a new addition.

The Boren food court will be open for dining while Hodson is being renovated, and other dining options will be available.

Residence Hall Updates

Taylor’s residence halls regularly undergo renovations in the summer. This summer, Olson Hall and Wengatz Hall’s windows will be replaced. Also in Wengatz Hall, the flooring, lobby, and residence hall director’s apartment will be renovated.

Chick-fil-A

After the Hodson renovations are complete, the Chick-fil-A restaurant in the Boren food court will be renovated in December 2023 and January 2024.

To compensate for the staggered renovations on dining facilities, Taylor will be introducing new areas on campus for students to obtain food. While this will require adjustments and adaptability from everyone, the Taylor community looks forward to these exciting changes and the positive impact they will have on the entire campus.

A Growing Community

As Taylor prepares to welcome its biggest-ever incoming class this fall, we are working hard to make campus more comfortable, accessible, and enjoyable. From new academic spaces to residence hall upgrades, Taylor is committed to making campus a place where everyone can belong and thrive.
