The Art of Visual Storytelling

If you’re serious about the art of visual storytelling, considering joining Taylor’s Film and Media Arts program. In 2023, a Taylor student film was named a semi-finalist in the Student Academy Awards and another student film was recognized with two national awards from the Television Academy. These are just a few of the 900+ external awards and recognitions for Taylor’s film program. Join a community of creative artists, passionate about film, television, video and audio production. Build skills in directing, cinematography, editing, sound design, screenwriting and producing in a top Christian college film and media program that values your individual artistic voice. Bound for Hollywood? Spend a semester at Taylor’s Los Angeles semester program, networking with alumni and working in professional internships.

Use State-of-the-Art Technology

Taylor filmmakers shoot on exceptional technology and use industry-grade software:

  • RED Weapon 8K cameras for fiction filmmaking
  • Sony’s FS-5 and FS-7 for non-fiction projects
  • Avid Media Composer and Adobe Premiere
  • ProTools and iZotope RX for audio
  • After Effects for motion graphics
  • DaVinci Resolve for color grading

For live production work, you’ll be in our studio with cameras, teleprompters, green screen, and a Cam-Mate jib. Expand your knowledge with the aesthetics, ethics, professional practices and business of visual storytelling. You’ll start taking courses in the major in your first semester. Job Success

Visual storytelling skills are essential to modern communication, and the job outlook for Film & Media Arts majors is bright. The Bureau of Labor Statistics projects an 12% increase in the need for cinematographers and editors in the next decade and a 8% increase in the need for producers and directors. The increases are driven by streaming entertainment and social media.

Film & Media Arts graduates work in Hollywood, corporate media, advertising and creative marketing agencies, and not-for-profit and ministry organizations. Our alumni can be found at NBC-Universal, Disney, Warner Brothers, Dreamworks, HBO Sports, working in broadcasting, and for streaming services. Our alumni also have worked on movies and television shows, been nominated for national Emmy awards, and screened work at dozens of regional and national film festivals.

Exceptional Film & Media Arts students with a passion for working and serving in the entertainment industry who have a 3.25 GPA overall may apply to the Los Angeles Internship Program. Those accepted spend one semester of their junior or senior year in Los Angeles, learning what it means to thrive as a Christian in the entertainment industry.

International Production Trip

Travel overseas with the Film program, learning what it takes to tell the stories of another culture. Fulfill Taylor’s cross-cultural requirement with a camera in your hands. In past years, students have gone to Rwanda, Uganda, Guatemala, and Ecuador.
