Update from the Presidential Search Committee

Mark D. Taylor, Chairman

The Presidential Search Committee met in September for a comprehensive review of prospective candidates. Our executive search firm, CarterBaldwin, identified 176 relevant prospects through nominations, referrals, applications, and proprietary research. CarterBaldwin has had various levels of contact with each of these individuals. From this large pool of names, the Committee received formal letters of application and curriculum vitae from 47 prospective candidates. The Search Committee’s challenge at the recent meeting was to identify a small number of semifinalists, and they were successful in identifying a diverse group of highly qualified individuals.

In the coming weeks a consultant from CarterBaldwin will conduct a face-to-face interview with each semifinalist. The Search Committee will then meet November 11 for an intensive discussion about each of these semifinalists and expects to select a small group of finalists at that time.

Following that, the Committee will have face-to-face interviews with each finalist. According to Mark Taylor, Search Committee chair, the Committee’s goal is to identify a final candidate for president by mid-January. The Committee’s expectation is the nomination will be presented to the Board of Trustees at its regular meeting on February 11-12, 2016. The Board will interview the final candidate before voting to approve him or her.

President Eugene B. Habecker has announced his retirement will be effective May 31, 2016 – a date which coincides with the end of the current academic year. We anticipate that the new president will be able to assume his or her new role at that time or shortly thereafter.

The Presidential Search Committee asks the entire Taylor University community to continue to support this process in prayer as it moves forward. The Committee members need discernment. But let’s also pray for our next president – whoever he or she may be.
