Hundreds of high school youth and youth group leaders are expected at Taylor University’s annual Youth Conference, scheduled for April 22-24 on the Taylor campus.

According to planners, the goal of Youth Conference is fostering spiritual growth among high school students and helping them in making their faith their own. This year’s theme is Rooted, based on the New Testament passage Colossians 2: 6-7, which reads, “So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.”

The three-day event features keynote speaker Jayson French, a youth pastor and vice president of programing at CIY (Christ In Youth). CIY is an organization that partners with local churches and provides more than 100 annual program events for students and leaders throughout the United States and in more than 10 foreign countries. French has served with CIY since 2002. He is a graduate of Ozark Christian College, and holds a master’s degree in organizational leadership from the Hargrove School and Adult and Graduate Studies at Lincoln Christian College.

Special musical guest is Sun & Heir, a five-member band consisting of Taylor alumni. Sun & Heir, which recently enjoyed a successful Kickstarter campaign that helped them create their EP, is an alternative band that combines many types of music to create its own sound. The band has played in a number of venues on campus and around the Midwest, including a show at the Chicago House of Blues.

The rest of the Youth Conference schedule includes worship, Taylor student-led small groups, games, activities and more.

“I expect and hope to see God moving and present during a weekend retreat that brings together high school and college students,” said Youth Conference co-director Cara Mastic, a senior Psychology major from South Bend, Ind. “I pray that students will deepen their roots in Christ through main sessions, small group times, and fun activities.”
